Servicing

It is fair to say that some electronic components suffer with the passage of time. You may notice that your amp doesn't sound as loud as it once did or it has lost the superb tone which it had when fresh from it's last visit to the workshop.
It is probably time for the amp to have some TLC in the form of a service.

Servicing carried out by Just Valve Amps will include a check on component tolerances. Electrolytic Capacitors particularly suffer with age and the strain of high voltages and temperatures found in valve amps.
The valves will be tested individually on a Taylor 45C tester which will show both gain and leakage figures for the valve under test.

The condition of solder joints and wiring will be checked.
Valve base sockets will be checked, cleaned and contacts re-tensioned as required.

Control potentiometers will be cleaned as required.
Output stage valve bias settings will be checked and adjusted where necessary.
Finally, the amp will be 'played' before being passed fit.

No major component replacement will be carried out without first consulting the owner with details of what is required and the additional costs involved.
Should new valves have been requested or be needed, again the owner will be consulted as to their preferences of valve manufacturer, tonal requirements etc.
